Covering the same core areas as our Economics BA, this course includes the opportunity to expand your horizons by spending a year abroad in Russia or a country where teaching is in Russian. Run in collaboration with the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies, it is designed to develop the skills needed to become a high-quality economic analyst who is fluent in Russian. You will be provided with a thorough knowledge of a broad range of economic theory and how it is applied to the real world, coupled with the opportunity to refine and practice your Russian language skills during your year abroad. The School of Economics is a recognised global leader in its field.
In your first year, you will cover the foundations of macro and microeconomics, and will choose either econometrics or quantitative economics. For the Russian element of this course, you will take a specialist language module and choose from a range of optional modules relating to the history, politics, culture and literature of Russia. During your second year, you will build on your knowledge of macro and microeconomics, and either econometrics or quantitative economics. Two-thirds of year two will focus on economics, and the remainder will be devoted to developing your language skills and understanding of Russia. Your third year will be spent either at a university or on a work placement in Russia or a country where teaching is in Russian.
