Course Summary:
Covering the same core areas as our Economics BA, this course includes the opportunity to expand your horizons by spending time abroad in Spain and/or a country where teaching is in Spanish or Portuguese. Run in collaboration with the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, it is designed to help you develop the skills needed to become a high-quality economic analyst who is fluent in Spanish. You will be provided with a thorough knowledge of economic theory and how it is applied to the real world, coupled with the opportunity to refine and practice your Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills during your time abroad. The School of Economics is a recognised global leader in its field.
Modules:
In your first year, you will cover the foundations of macro and microeconomics, and choose either econometrics or quantitative economics. For the Hispanic studies element of this course, you will take a specialist language module and choose from optional modules relating to the history, politics, culture and literature of Spain and/or Portugal. Two-thirds of year two will focus on economics, and the remainder will be devoted to developing your language skills and understanding of Spain and/or Portugal. Your third year will be spent either at a university in Granada, a work placement in Spain or a country where teaching is in Spanish. If you choose modules in Portuguese, you will be able to spend part of your third year in Portugal or a country where teaching is in Portuguese.
